For many, it will be a challenging Thanksgiving. Political realities and an environment of hatred and animosity can make a holiday that’s organized around a sense of happiness and gratitude feel obsolete or even inappropriate. Cultivating a sense of thankfulness may feel like the last thing anyone wants to do right now.
A girl from Oklahoma can’t stop thinking about the terrifying moment she found a wanted man hiding inside her bedroom closet. “ Every time I come in my closet or my room or my bathroom, anywhere, I just think about it and like I remember how scary it was,” 11-year-old Presley Brown said. Presley was playing on her cell phone in her Ardmore home last Monday when she spotted Race Cox’s reflection in the mirror.
Thanksgiving is typically associated with feel-good food, friends and family. However, since this year it comes on the heels of a nasty election season, there may be an added guest at the dinner table: Hostility
In all the chatter during the 2016 election campaign about the neglected and overlooked people in the country, precious little was said about the tens of millions of people over 50 who are in desperate or near-desperate financial straits. And maybe that makes sense, because these people have been neglected and overlooked for so long they are barely part of any conversation.

This second article in my series about the absurdly productive trans-national art star Jan Fabre (the first is here ) has very little to do directly with him or his work. Donald Trump just can’t drop his beef with “ Saturday Night Live .” The president-elect took time out from the important job of preparing for office to again blast the comedy sketch show over its portrayal of him. Here’s what Trump tweeted on Sunday morning: I watched parts of @nbcsnl Saturday Night Live last night. It is a totally one-sided, biased show – nothing funny at all.
Last Tuesday, November 8 marked the 27th year since the Berlin Wall fell. On the exact same day a man wanting to build a wall was elected as President of the United States.
Alec Baldwin channeled an out of his depth Donald Trump on his post-election return to “ Saturday Night Live .” The actor as the President-elect met with Kate McKinnon playing his bewildered campaign manager Kellyanne Conway, a military chief and an unemployed coal worker excited about Trump’s promises of getting his job back for the skit. But each time they asked the future POTUS a question, he really didn’t know how to respond. There was a surprise appearance from former “SNL” cast member Jason Sudeikis , who returned to the show to reprise his role as former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney

The irony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s “America First” policy is that it could end the budding new Cold War that has been developing between the West and Russia and China. The final irony in an election filled with irony is the refusal of some voters to accept President-elect Donald Trump’s victory . This group doesn’t simply include protesters but a movement of some size to persuade the electoral college to vote for Hillary Clinton instead of Trump
Optimists are hoping for a Trump makeover. They cling to his brief victory remarks suggesting that he wants to be the “president of all the people.” In his 60 Minutes interview following the election Trump said that the protestors were out in the streets because “they do not know me.” They recall his statement some months ago that he had to say outlandish things in order to get greater media attention and reach more people than his Republican primary competitors. Before I launched my 365-Day writing project , I came up with a 13-page (10 point font, 1.5-spaced) list of ideas. In the early days of the project, this numbered list guided me; I’d even used the strikethrough feature to cross out the topics I wrote about. As the year progressed and the calendar pages flipped faster than the leaves fell off the trees, I couldn’t keep up with the old stories on the list because new narratives were consistently presenting themselves for write-ups It was easier to write about something which happened today than to dig deep into my subconscious to recall a story from childhood or adolescence; something which helped define me, shape me, or gave me membership into a “life club.” Whatever crazy shit happens to us as humans, the “life club” concept is designed to help us feel like we’re not alone; we can always find someone who can relate, no matter how ludicrous our situation or experience may seem

Read the “big takeaways” sections of the political news aggregators in the days following the elections. They’re focused on how campaign insiders missed this voter sentiment or that election dynamic. But they’re nearly silent on the Clinton campaign’s most obvious failing: After a decade pursuing the presidency, this highly accomplished woman couldn’t communicate to Americans a compelling vision of what she’d do for them.
I’m desiring to respond to everything that’s happened in the last week, and yet I’ve been struggling to respond at the same time. While I tend to stay away from politics, I’ve seen so many posts, articles and physical and verbal actions hurting each other and making each other wrong, I feel a pull to come forward.
At COP22 In Morocco, Secretary Of State John Kerry Affirms U.S. Commitment To Address Climate Change
Secretary of State John Kerry reaffirmed the US commitment to addressing global climate change here at the UN climate conference in Marrakech, Morocco. Marrakech serves as host city for the 22nd Conference of Parties ( COP22 ) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change ( UNFCCC ). The world must now wait to see if the incoming Trump administration will honor those commitments, or if the US will become a rogue nation that denies the very existence of climate change as a hoax “created by and for the Chinese to make US manufacturing less competitive.” Once inaugurated, Trump will stand as THE ONLY head-of-state who denies the science of climate change.

The changing configuration of landscapes and the increasing natural catastrophes that we are being confronted to are a clear demonstration that climate change is one of the most pressing global challenges of this age.
